MENTORING PROGRAM
Makassar, 8-10 July, 2008
AIGRP’s Mentoring Program brought nine Australian and fifteen Indonesian researchers to Makassar in early July to begin developing proposals for collaborative research on governance issues in eastern Indonesia. Following their participation in the two-day Mentoring Workshop, researchers now have an opportunity to refine their joint proposals with mentoring support from Dr Michele Ford. After the mentoring period, the groups will submit their revised proposals to the AIGRP steering committee, which could award funding to the most promising projects.
Run in conjunction with the World Bank’s Support Office for Eastern Indonesia (SOfEI), the Mentoring Program is designed not only to encourage development of research skills in eastern Indonesia, but to promote closer links between Indonesian and Australian early career researchers. Most participants agreed that the opportunity to connect with other researchers by designing a proposal together was the highlight of the time spent together in Makassar.
